One Mean Cookie Woman "We're cooking!"

One Mean Cookie Woman

Welcome to the One Mean Cookie Woman site. We are still in construction mode but you can read posts now.  We have set up a user comment section, courtesy of my computer geek hubby, try it and if there are problems, please bear with us, there might be some tweaking necessary.  Thank you.

By the way, if you wonder where I came up with this name, I will tell you. Every Christmas I would toil away for hours making dozens and dozens of different types of cookies for sharing with family during Holiday gatherings and I would also bring them to work in a big tin and placed it on my desk so anyone would feel welcome to them. One day my boss said: "you make one mean cookie, woman". I liked the sound of it and later mentioned it to my husband who encouraged me to get the domain moniker and do something with it. Well here I am, better late than never.

The main purpose of this site is to compare, rate and share experiences, methods, tricks and tips in baking, cooking and the use of new and inventive gadgets that can help us become better at our love of creating great dishes, desserts and snacks for our loved ones and friends. We can also take a look at publications that address all these issues and keep us informed and updated in our culinary quests. Who knows, you may be interested in getting a subscription to one of them. I have a favourite one, Bon Appetit.  Not only does it have beautiful pictures of delicious looking foods but it gives you the recipes and many tips as well.

How many times, while trying out a new recipe, we are faced with such things as "cooking times vary when you are at hights over 3000 feet above sea level", or if you don't have buttermilk, what can you use as a substitution? I for one learn new things every day and I intend to share them with you, as well as recipes, tried and true or brand new and what the outcome is.

How about recipes that use less or no salt or sugar. How can we make a dish taste good without the use of salt? How about desserts with little to no sugar. What are the substitutes for these flavouring agents and how safe are they?

So many things to talk about. So let's get cooking!
